Montreal Lights Up the Night

Montréal en Lumiere, the city’s annual late winter arts extravaganza, culminates in “Nuit blanche,” a transformation of downtown streets into a gigantic nocturnal playground. This year’s  edition, sponsored as always by Hydro Québec, takes place Saturday, March 1 through Sunday, March 2. The massive event is bigger than ever, with more than 200 activities, most of them free.  Headquarters for the festivities is the outdoor site, Place des Festivals, at Esplanade de la Place des Arts and Ste. Catherine Street, with activities branching out throughout 3 quartiers and 2 pôles—including the newest pole, the Ligne Bleue.  In keeping with this year’s theme, “Spotlight on Montreal,” Nuit blanche will turn the city into Planet Montreal, inviting all to discover the creativity of the city’s artists and the wealth of local venues, sites and creative organizations.

Enjoy visual art, film, dance, comedy, theater, music, storytelling, special lighting effects and much more in an event so popular that the Montreal Metro stays open all night to accommodate the crowds.  For information on Nuit blanche and the entire Montréal en lumiere program, visit montrealenlumiere.com
